Luckiest Unlucky Man Dies Tsutomu Yamaguchi, who survived two atomic bombs and lived to tell about it, dies at age 93. 02/12/2010 02:18 PM CST (STARpod.org) -- He has been called the luckiest unlucky man alive. What could be more unlucky than to be burned in the first atomic bombing of Japan at Hiroshima, only to return home and experience the second atomic bombing at Nagasaki? Tsutomu Yamaguchi was visiting Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, on a work assignment, when America dropped the first atomic bomb. Miraculously, he survived the devastating firestorm, only to return home to Nagasaki, where America dropped an even more powerful nuclear weapon three days later. Mr. Yamaguchi also survived the attack against Nagasaki, which was the last time an atomic bomb was used in war. Mr. Yamaguchi hoped his talks about the horrors of the atomic bombings would eventually result in the abolishment of nuclear weapons.
